OK, Risa passed this to me - I'll play.
1. Total amount of music files on your computer: Over 2000 files/5 Gb, but we’re just starting our download project. Want to have our entire music library digitized and playable through our PC network. DH’s pet project – I’m just going to reap the rewards.
2. The last CD you bought was: Just ordered k.d. lang's Hymns of the 49th Parallel today when I heard her cover of Neil Young. I gave Brian the new Diana Krall for Christmas and he got me the Cold Mountain soundtrack. Bought CSNY used last week when I realized my last copy was on vinyl and long gone. Considering the latest U2 and REM, but want to sample more tracks first - that’s how I know I’m old – for years I bought my favorite artists on release w/o hearing a song.
3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message? Laurie Anderson’s Life on a String is on the CD player right now. ... OK, I’m back four hours later and now we’re listening to some MP3s by Sigur Ros from Iceland downloaded from Salon.com. We listen to music constantly. I'm not trying to be pretentious with the above artists - this is what my DH put on while I was out of the room. We both have very eclectic taste in music that was definitely part of the attraction when we met.
4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and his sonata and concertos
Anything Bach
Singer/songwriter albums - particularly when I'm scrapbooking.
Mood music - Brian goes for jazz while I go for ambient or new age/Winham Hill. We always have breakfast and dinner music.
Some artists I enjoy in no particular order or chronology: David Gray, Gillian Welch, David Byrne, Lyle Lovett, Holly Cole, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, REM, U2, Wilco, Elvis Costello, Dido, Moby, Sting, The White Stripes, Van Morrison, Natalie Merchant, B-Tribe, Emmylou Haris. I'm missing so, so many - we play to the mood. Also have a soft spot (well more of a hot spot) for classic Zepplin.
5. Who are you going to pass this stick to? and why?
OK, I don't think I'll pass it off as much as offer it up. Are you a music lover? If you'd like to play along, grab this list and insert your answers, then comment here if you want or send me an email. I'm always looking for new artists. It's exciting to read someone's list where you love 75% of it and haven't heard of the other 25%. Oh the possibilities.
Sigur Ros is INCREDIBLE. Their live shows are heartwrenching.
